After spending a day in
Lecce in Puglia in 2017, while on a cruise, we had always
felt that we would like to return to the region. It seemed
to have far more to offer than we could experience in
a single visit. Almost ten years later, a glowing article
about Trani in one of the British newspapers finally prompted
us to do just that.
One of Trani’s main attractions was that it had
not yet been discovered by large numbers of foreign tourists.
It also had a surprisingly good selection of restaurants,
including several with Michelin recognition. The town
itself, with its attractive harbour and historic centre,
proved to be an ideal combination of being a reasonably
short distance from the airport and having a wonderfully
relaxed feel about it.
During our stay, we took a short train journey along the
coast to the much larger city of Barletta, which had also
received some favourable reviews. Although we enjoyed
our visit, Trani remained our favourite and was the place
we found ourselves most reluctant to leave.
We would certainly consider returning for a second visit.
We were very pleased with
our choice of hotel with the bonus of having a balcony
overlooking the harbour.
