Day 2: We arrive on the island of Bali
An early evening arrival into Denpasar,
Bali.
A speedy transfer to a lovely hotel and a delicious
dinner.
| |
During the smooth flight
and after a surprisingly long sleep, we were both awake
and feeling slightly peckish when the next meal was served,
two hours before we were due to land. Our body clocks thought
it was time for breakfast, but given the time difference
between the U.K. and Bali, it was actually late afternoon
in Bali. The menu stated that we would be served breakfast,
but when it was served, it turned out to be a lot more substantial. |
| |
The bread, made with
wheat grown in Anatolia, the origin of humanity’s
oldest bread, was delicious... |
...and so were the special
Turkish sweet treats. |
| |
It was just before 7:00pm
by the time we came in to land at Denpasar, the international
airport on the island of Bali. Once again, Bruce followed
the approach and landing on the aircraft's camera. |
| |
Despite all of the procedures
and documentation that we had had to source beforehand,
our passage through the airport was very quick and easy.
We were met by the local agent in the arrivals hall and
after waiting for the seven or so other travellers who were
also on our flight, our bags were loaded onto a lorry and
we set off in a minibus towards our hotel. |
| |
Our route from the airport
to the hotel... |
| |
...which included passing
this toll. |
| |
Before long, we turned
into the serene looking grounds of the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel. |
| |
The serene feeling continued
on into the hotel foyer. |
| |
| |
Our room was lovely.
Although it was dark, we could see that there was lagoon/pool
directly in front of it, with a lush, tropical garden beyond.
It seemed a pity that we would only be spending one night
here. |
| |
We decided that we should
try to get into the local time zone as quickly as possible.
It was 8:30pm and we chose to have dinner at "Raja's
Balinese Cuisine" restaurant, one of several restaurants
in the hotel complex. |
| |
Our table overlooked
a large pool. |
| |
| |
| |
After spending some
time looking at the extensive menu, we decided to order
only one course each. We weren't anticipating all of the
extra things that started appearing on the table. |
| |
| |
Geoff loved his local
fish dish... |
| |
...while Bruce had a
vegetable curry dish that he also loved. |
| |
We didn't order a dessert,
but we were served some tasty chocolates anyway. |
| |
We were pleased to be
settled in our hotel after our long flights. This had been
the perfect welcome and were looking forward to a good night's
sleep. |
